Gratitude is an indispensable value that every child needs to learn. Gwen's Gratitude: A Moral Lesson on Gratitude (Moral Values) will teach children to appreciate all the good things they receive in daily life. The story is about Gwen, a little girl who discovers many things to be grateful for. Her mom is kind and loves her very much. At first, Gwen doesn't realize how lucky she is until she discovers that other children are not as fortunate as she is. When Gwen sees all the effort her mother makes for her, she understands what gratitude is. Marie Zhang shows children many simple moments in life for which to be grateful.
Marie Zhang shares a story with parents and teachers that will enable them to discuss gratitude in a child-friendly way. I loved the drawings because they are adorable and children will be able to see the good and bad moments clearly illustrated. The narration is rhythmic, with sentences that are easy to read. The story is short, but it covers diverse situations, such as things that happen at school, while out shopping, or at home. Children will empathize with Gwen because she goes through moments such as asking for a toy or having trouble with her homework. Children will also learn to accept their responsibilities and be grateful. I think Gwen's Gratitude is a highly appropriate book because children will readily appreciate what their parents do for them.
