Revenge and redemption. Hopefulness and despair. These are just a few of the emotions you’ll encounter when reading Guardians III: The Journey Home by author Brad Anderson. Our story begins with our hero, Robert Mackie, hopeful that vampires will truly leave him and his family alone and that they can make their journey back to their hometown of Pensacola, Florida, in safety. What he doesn’t know is that Brian, a vampire he’s had a less than positive run-in with in the past, is out for revenge and knows exactly where the family will end up. And when the Mackie family runs into some more unsavory characters from his past as a DEA agent in San Antonio, Robert’s attention needs to be focused on the safety of his family, and making sure whatever decisions he makes won’t scar them for years to come. And when you add in the actions of Vargas, the oldest vampire, and his quest to stop Brian from making a spectacle of himself and bringing the existence of vampires to the attention of the general public, this book just doesn’t let up.
Guardians III: The Journey Home is a rip-roaring thrill ride almost from the beginning. Brad Anderson’s newest addition to the Guardians series doesn’t disappoint in its depiction of almost non-stop action and adventure. Throw in the addition of children and their vulnerability in this fantastically drawn plot, and you’ve got a real winner. This book would appeal to any lover of fantasy and adventure, or any reader that appreciates a fast-paced thrill of a read. Good job, Mr. Anderson, and I look forward to reading more of your work to come!
