In Guardians II by Brad Anderson, after the rescue of over fifty kids, former DEA agent Robert Mackie has re-united a long-lost kid with his family. Greg was taken by the vampires six years ago and his parents had given up hope. Robert now focuses on taking his nephew and niece, also victims of a vampire kidnapping, back home. He, however, has very many enemies, both human and immortal, due to his previous undercover work with the DEA and his recent encounter with the vampires, which left many of their leaders dead. The vampire world is in chaos due to the deaths that left big leadership gaps and there is an imperative desire for revenge on Robert, the man who killed their leaders. He is assured of safe passage by Lisa, a vampire, and unaware of her betrayal, he sets out on a journey to take his nephew and niece back home. However, he has seen enough to know that he cannot trust the vampires 100% and he is therefore hoping for the best, but is prepared for the worst.
Guardians II: A Farewell to Carlos Santiago by Brad Anderson is an action-packed paranormal thriller with a completely captivating story. Brad Anderson created an excellent mix of characters that complemented each other perfectly to create an engrossing story. The skillful way he created rare vampire characters beats any vampire book I have read before. These vampires are unique in a way that they were created to be everything you would expect from them, but with an almost sweet and soft touch. The main character is a strong and brave man and yet finds it very easy to connect with the kids who are adorable and yet wise and brave beyond their years. The book strikes the right balance with a well thought out plot, well developed characters, and twists and turns that you never see coming.
