Guardian Outcast by G.J. Ogden is a sci-fi space adventure full of good guys and bad guys in the far reaches of the galaxy. It’s “Indiana Jones” meets “Guardians of the Galaxy” meets “The Good the Bad and the Ugly”. The story follows a flawed but charming man named Hudson Powell who wants nothing more than to do the right thing. His only problem is he keeps getting involved with the wrong kind of people. No sooner does he meet the girl of his dreams when all hell breaks loose around him. Even though his life hits rock bottom, Hudson stays the course and is determined to keep a promise to a friend and find a new purpose for his life in the process. All he’ll have to do is survive the multiple hitmen who are coming after him to kill him.
Guardian Outcast by G.J. Ogden is the beginning of a new series called the Star Scavenger Series. This book does a fine job of introducing us to our hero, a possible love interest, and a man who I’m guessing is the villain of the series. The story is rather simple but seems to be setting the reader up for plenty of complications in the next book and beyond. The setting is multiple planets that are grungy and ghetto-like places. The strongest element of Guardian Outcast is its characters. They are all very cinematic in nature, falling into easily definable roles. Good and bad characters alike are fun and colorful in their appearances and personalities. Readers looking for a wild west adventure that replaces horses with spaceships and frontier towns with dangerous, ghetto-like planets will find much to enjoy in Guardian Outcast.
