Author Michael Lawson has a strong background in business and management, and has a thorough knowledge of what he writes in "Growth Above the Clouds". Chapter by chapter, he tells of businesses that have succeeded and always summarizes each chapter with simple, understandable details on why this is so. He admits that the clouds of the economy, unemployment, foreclosures and family and personal health are obstacles but that there are opportunities to rise above the clouds they create. His ultimate message is that life and business can be improved. Lawson is knowledgeable about United States history and offers easy to read graphs on which Presidents in our past have been able to balance the budget and reduce the deficit. Lawson tells in detail why certain companies such as Sherwin Williams, Aetna, Oshkosh, and Starbucks have been able show job and profit growth despite our faltering economy. He spends an entire chapter telling how Wal-Mart has done well by emphasizing customers' needs over growth and devotes another chapter to billionaire Warren Buffett's growth strategy. The author does note that the health care industry is a booming one and discusses Home Depot's success story.
"Growth Above the Clouds" is a book for readers to pick up, read and absorb right now as it speaks about our present financial situation where unemployment and foreclosure are all too common. Michael Lawson writes clearly and organizes this book very well so that even average reader can understand every word. Graphs and accompanying illustrations help make what the author writes quite clear. The bibliography is excellent and helps to make "Growth Above the Clouds" a must read for everyone worried about the financial future of our world.
