Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off is a work of fiction in the science fiction genre. It is suitable for the adult reading audience and was penned by author C. Scott Brown. The book follows a group of aliens who have been assigned to keep a careful eye on the Earth lest the less scrupulous races of the galaxy decide it’s an easy target. Should that happen, the planet is to be destroyed, but to their surprise, the monitoring aliens decide that they actually quite like Earth and would instead try and save it. Banding together with a group of Earthlings bent on saving humanity from itself, the aliens must convince the Earthlings to set aside their differences and stand firm in the galaxy.

Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off is a science-fiction novel with a mystery at its heart. What I enjoyed the most about this novel were its innovative ideas, and creativity was sewn into the plot, making you think deeply about the story and life. Author C. Scott Brown has a keen sense for atmosphere, which he builds through tension and clues that he delivers through clever dialogue and scenic description. Brown does a brilliant job of combining the elements of classic science fiction novels with some more unusual features that set it apart from others like it. He does this mainly through the political and social divide in the story. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this novel to fans of science fiction novels and those that enjoy mysteries with a connection to the real world. Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off is a work that will make you question and think more deeply about the world around you: a read that will stay with you long after you put the book down.

Vincent Dublado

At a time when we are bombarded by books and films about malevolent alien invasions, author C. Scott Brown offers a fresh take by helping us fight evil spirits that have been plaguing humanity in the novel Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off. At the heart of the plot is Al, an alien from the planet Merconiun, whose job is to determine any potential threats from lost spirits possessing people across the galaxies. He works side by side with his human consultant, Lee Priest, who forms the Bureau of Paranormal and Unexplained Phenomenon. They communicate with evil spirits, and it appears that humans easily fall prey to possession from their lack of grit: the unique quality of resilience when faced with adversity. They will have to launch a crusade on the need for grit, about raising personal responsibility in an era flooded with snowflakes, and time is ticking by in which to do it.

The concept of grit as a vital weapon against formidable enemies raises the bar for inventiveness. Increasing people’s level of grit on such a large scale will not be easy, as we have plenty of self-evaluation to do to make it happen. Author C. Scott Brown has written something that taps subtly into your sensibilities. It has a promising plot although limited in focus as it only covers American ground in a threat that is said to exist on other planets as well. You can only make an intelligent guess that other planets and nations on Earth are taking a step toward reacting to and dealing with the threat in the same way. Perhaps in the way that we responded to and dealt with the pandemic. The novel's politics blend well with science fiction so that it becomes not just a stylistic exercise for Brown but the presentation of an atmosphere that is strangely engaging. Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off is a fascinating story, one that belongs on your to-read list.

Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off by C. Scott Brown addresses contemporary issues plaguing Earth, and the author writes about realities that stare readers in the face in a story that is as gripping as it is thought-provoking. The divisiveness on Earth is about to destroy it. Hidden in the galactic world, an alien spacecraft monitors what is happening on Earth, dismayed at the lack of empathy and the waywardness that drives society, especially in the US, toward a catastrophic end. Caught between engaging in war to annihilate Earth and saving it, the planet decides to engage in a way that can help it heal. Earth, of course, is too beautiful to be thrown away. An alliance of alien humanoids and Earthlings is designed to drive out the evil that has crossed planets and infested Earth. Can they destroy the evil without annihilating Earth?

This book is filled with compelling ideas and explores the socio-political and religious realities that we are confronted with. The author offers vivid descriptions of the spacecraft that monitors Earth and writes a compelling story against a political and social backdrop that readers are all too familiar with. It is a tale that deftly explores the proverbial theme of good vs. evil. C. Scott Brown’s Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off melds science fiction, fantasy, and strong political and social commentaries to create a somewhat disturbing picture that readers are already familiar with: the conflict that plagues our society. The characters are drawn from different backgrounds, united by the mission to destroy a powerful evil before it consumes our planet. The writing is infused with realism, and the story features fully drawn characters. It is bold in its thematic execution and enticing in the storytelling craft.

Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off by C. Scott Brown is a political science fiction novel with plenty of drama to keep you hooked until the end. Earth is in danger, and the galaxy is worried about the planet. Evil spirits have taken root there, but Earth is not their only victim. They have destroyed many other planets, and now they have set their sights on Earth. A Merconian named Al needs to determine if the evil spirits are truly a threat to Earth or not. Joining Al in this quest is Lee Priest. Lee gathers a group of people who will help Al protect Earth and humans from evil spirits. The spirits possess the weak, and it is up to Al, Lee, and the rest to save humans before it is too late.

Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off presents such a good way of tackling the good vs. evil theme. It is a plot-heavy, dialogue-driven novel that had me hooked from the very beginning. C. Scott Brown opens the story with intrigue and immerses readers in the story from the get-go. The pace is fast, but it isn’t in any rush to complete the story. The author gives plenty of opportunities for Al and Lee to share their stories with readers to form a connection and truly enjoy the plot. The story's focus is the individual and the power all of us hold inside us to truly succeed. The concept of evil spirits who possess the weak is not unique per se, but it is uniquely told in this context. I have zero complaints regarding anything, to be honest, and I only wish that the author would continue Al and Lee’s journey.
