Vintage things are to be cherished because of the memories of love attached but someone in the younger generation may view these things as old or useless. In Granny's Vintage Camera by Jasmine Paul, with illustrations by Jose Andres Nieto, Kass didn't fully understand how something as old as her Granny's camera could be so important. In this beautifully illustrated children's picture book children will learn about responsibility, perspective, and how essential the past is because it ties into and influences our future. When Kass decided to embark on taking pictures, she wanted to borrow her Granny's camera until she could save up enough money to purchase a JazzCam Instant Camera. When Kass received Granny's camera, it came with some stipulations. Why? It's only an old camera. Little did Kass know that the camera has more connections and importance than meets the eye.
Granny's Vintage Camera by Jasmine Paul is a beautiful way to display generational bonding, history, and connection. Kass didn't realize that her passion for photography was once something that her Granny had as well. Through this experience, Kass was able to see the connection that Granny had with the camera and her past. Once Kass was able to understand that this was more than a vintage camera, she was able to see the camera, her Granny, and photography in a different way.
