Grandpa Went to Heaven by Amber Richards is a good book to teach kids about handling loss, grief and the death of a loved one. The author tells children about Heaven, where one goes after death, and how beautiful it is to be there with God. It's difficult to explain death to children, but in this book the author puts it forth in a simple manner and makes the concept easy to comprehend. Parents, teachers and educators can use this book as a tool to explain about loss and bereavement to young kids. The book also gives comfort to those who are grieving.
The pictures capture the concept beautifully and make a complex topic easy to handle. Parents of children who are undergoing loss will find this book handy while explaining the topic. The book is well written and, though short, is useful and effective to make kids understand. The author's words are thoughtful, compassionate and gentle and it is helpful to those who do not know how to explain the topic of death to children. The Christian method of teaching about loss makes it a perfect book to be used in Bible class. The book also teaches kids about the soul or the spirit in a beautiful way. The topic is relevant and author’s idea to come out with a book related to this topic is indeed a good one. It is a book that will give lots of comfort and reassurance to a child.
