Grace Poured Out is a touching story by author Valerie Herndon about losing her daughter to cancer. Ms. Herndon related how her day began as usual rushing around doing chores. Katie began to complain that her knee was hurting. She took Katie to the doctor for a check-up. Further tests revealed that Katie had bone cancer. The news shocked Ms. Herndon to her core. Surgery was scheduled and the entire family rallied around Katie. Ms. Herndon truly relied on the grace of God to guide her through the emotional turmoil she was experiencing. What with chemotherapy, further surgeries, sleepless nights at the hospital, etc, Ms. Herndon obviously became overwhelmed. Unfortunately, Katie died. Ms. Herndon struggled to move on with her life. The relationship between her husband and their other children slowly improved. She knew that Katie was with God and that what God does is well done.

Grace Poured Out is truly an inspirational story. The tone is a personal one as Ms. Herndon speaks from the heart in terms of her true emotional state. Her grief is aptly expressed. The language used is simple and colloquial as the author just needs to relate to her audience on an emotional level. I love the fact that Ms. Herndon chose to incorporate Katie’s drawings and journal entries in her story. This gives the book a more personal touch. The average reader is better able to identify with the author. This story is a tear jerker, yet it gives you hope that better days are ahead. It can truly be a blessing for other readers who are experiencing trials in life. I recommend Grace Poured Out for all readers, especially those who need encouragement in times of sorrow or hardship.
