Goodnight Koala Town by C. Géraldine is a delightful children’s picture book that shows us the world of one little koala by the name of Koalaroo. We watch Koalaroo’s night begin as he carries out his proper nightly rituals before bedtime. There is the excitement that comes when wonderous things awaken and take flight in the night sky right before Koalaroo's and his toys' eyes. Géraldine’s narrative brings an element of anticipation of what is to come and doesn’t disappoint. The illustrations created by K. Yovin are bright and evoke a warm sense of family, friendship, and love. The images have a certain kind of liveliness to them that takes the storyline to an even deeper level.
C. Géraldine's Goodnight Koala Town made me smile in a way that I haven’t in quite some time. The stuffed animals in the bed changing expressions and changing positions as though they were creatures that came to life took me back to my childhood and how important those furry non-living lives truly are. Seeing that kind of camaraderie in a children’s book was a wonderful element in the story. There is something nostalgic about this tale that you will want to share again and again with those who you love. It is the perfect book to share with loved ones at night right before their imaginations take flight and whisk them off to dreamland.
