Good Will is a contemporary women’s fiction novel written by Tiffany Killoren. Somehow Jake had taken their special place, the perfect spot on the bridge, and turned it into a place of tragedy and darkness forever in Lily’s heart and soul. How could he have chosen that place to jump? How could he have left her and their precocious seven-year-old son to cope with the hordes of creditors, with the notoriety of being the survivors while trying to wrap their own minds around the grief they were reeling from? Lily and Sam’s lives had been destroyed by Jake’s suicide, and now all they had was in the rented U-Haul hitched up to their car. The last thing Lily had ever wanted to do was to go back home. College and Jake had been a way out of that. Now, as she pulled up outside her family home and prepared herself to hear her dad say I told you so, Lily felt she had nothing left. But something magical and totally unexpected awaited her and the friends she would soon be making back home in Iowa even though the chances of anything good happening, at that moment, seemed so incredibly unlikely.
Tiffany Killoren’s Good Will is a well-written and enthralling story about women helping women and having their lives immeasurably enhanced by their interrelationships. Two women in the story have faced early and drastic loss; Lily with the suicide of Jake, her husband, and Beth, whose honeymoon was forever marred by the tragic accident that left her new husband paralyzed and dying. Each of the other women in this novel has issues as well, but the magic that is waiting and sitting there in the combination of their lives is so powerful and real that one is apt to start to see this as a memoir instead of fiction. Killoren’s characters are marvelous, strong, and authentic. Her plot kept my attention from the first page on, and her writing is a joy to behold. Good Will is most highly recommended.
