Babies and very young children are often reluctant to go to sleep at night. They want to keep busy all night, just like they did during the daytime. It makes for a very long day when it stretches into night, especially for the parents. A simple rhyme, a sweet lullaby, and soon the baby or very young child will, hopefully, drift off into dreamland.
Good Night Baby Boy is a simple, but charming little book with a sweet expression of love and encouragement to go to sleep at night. Author D.A. Batrowny has used repetitive phrases, like “Good night love,” to allow a very young reader to start to recognize some of the basics of reading. The repetition also has the hypnotic effect of luring sleepiness into the concept of love. The child or the baby has had a great day, but like the baby birds who are counting sheep, the time has come to go to sleep. There are some rhyming phrases as well to make this read something like a lullaby.
The colorful illustrations make this book a real treasure, something to be enjoyed, even when the child progresses from being read to during night time story time to starting to read along with Mom or Dad. It is expertly presented to allow the child to start to develop literary skills long before they even start to talk. As they listen and learn and then start to read along, this delightful little book will spark both an interest as well as a loving bond with both parents and the joy of reading itself. Books are a treasure and this is definitely one of those treasures to cherish for years.
