God's Child or Satan's Angel by Adam Michael Schutte is an autobiographical story about Adam’s life from childhood up to this point. In this book, Adam talks about his abusive father who was violent and physically abusive to Adam’s mother; his resultant self-blame and guilt arising from this; his struggles with drugs and running wild in his teens including his own, at times, violent and destructive path that landed him in prison for years; his hatred towards society and people as a whole that resulted from his childhood and early experiences; and also his encounters with and the influence of Christianity on him. This is his story told in his own words in a fairly sequential manner up to present day.
Adam writes pretty candidly and openly about his past and early experiences. Throughout the book, he makes no secret about the fact that he felt hatred towards society, displayed sociopathic tendencies as a result of his trauma, and also his impulsive and, at times, violent behavior that resulted from all of this. I appreciated that he shared his prison experiences and also about his own personal evolution. There is a Christian undertone in this book and I feel that this is one thing that should be clearly stated for potential readers to judge if this is something they are interested in.
Also, there is mention of multiple personality disorder, but it is not elaborated upon much and I wasn’t sure if that is what he had, simply because this disorder develops in early childhood and cannot develop in the teenage years due to the nature of the disorder. Adam’s writing style is straightforward and direct and would be easily relatable to most readers. Overall, this is an autobiography of Adam’s own subjective experiences expressed in his own words and is a good read for people who enjoy this genre.
