God, Incorporated by Steven Taunton takes readers on an imaginative and thought-provoking journey into a world where a mysterious company offers absolute truths for a price. The story begins in modern-day New York City with a cryptic advertisement inviting people to visit the enigmatic shopfront of "God, Incorporated." What follows is an exploration of humanity's deepest desires, fears, and curiosities as individuals range from curious journalists to desperate families, posing their questions to a seemingly omniscient business. It explores ethical dilemmas, the nature of truth, and the repercussions of having too much knowledge, with each question's price based on individual circumstances. Readers are left wondering whether God, Incorporated is a hoax, a miracle, or something much more complex as the mysterious clerk Glen Evans oversees a diverse group of clients.

Steven Taunton deftly balances humor, drama, and philosophical inquiry. The pacing is consistent, matching the grip of the narrative and the concerns of each particular story with the inherent mystery of how this company operates. He has a talent for developing real and sympathetic characters, and the emotional weight of the characters anchors the book’s deeper themes. Natural and captivating conversations offer a quick back-and-forth that is frequently laced with humor or sorrow, and the detailed descriptions capture the bustle of New York life juxtaposed with the serene, eerie store setting. God, Incorporated is a clever, multifaceted story that deals with moral dilemmas like whether to play God, free will, and the pursuit of truth with skillful touches.
