Glacier World by Fredrick Cooper is centered around a theme park, one that took 5 years to develop and was expected to pull in visitors from around the world in their droves. It was the perfect way to experience the diversity of Alaska; the wildlife, the sea life, the mountains, even the gold rush era. There would be cruise ships docking, bringing visitors to experience everything that Alaska offered. But what would really draw the visitors in was the top attraction – the Alaskan predators. Enclosures house bears, wolves, cougars and many more, all there in their natural habitats for everyone to see. Glacier World is hiding a deep dark secret, though. Very few locals have been hired to work in the resort. Before it opened, people started dying in strange circumstances; cargo started to go missing in the Gulf of Alaska. An Indian tribe forester, Earl Armstrong, is based in Washington and he seems to be missing a large shipment of lumber. His travels to trace it take him from his computer to the wilds of Alaska where he and his friends find themselves in more danger than they could ever have imagined – and not just from four-legged predators.
Glacier World by Fredrick Cooper is a fascinating adventure tale with the addition of a few Native American legends thrown in for good measure. The plot is not a straightforward one so you will need your wits about you to keep up with it, but it is an edge-of-the-seat story. It’s full of action, lots of twists and turns, and plenty of excitement to keep you hooked. This is a well-crafted story, with lots of interesting facts interspersed with fiction and some great characters that will grow on you throughout the story. This could almost be made into a movie; I say almost because I fear that the story would be spoiled if it were! Expect to be pulled into this headfirst, to experience the story alongside the characters and to not want to put the book down. The only 'bad' part about the book was that it had to end!
