Gisborne: Book of Kings (The Gisborne Saga 3) by Prue Batten is the final book in the Gisborne trilogy and brings us back into the heart of the rule of Richard Lionheart. Gisborne, spymaster and valued knight, is pushed into a duel in which his wife and son are played as pieces in a brutal game of revenge. The question becomes who is it that is coming to seek vengeance - is it the Knights Templar? Or is it Eleanor of Aquitaine who thinks that Gisborne is a traitor? Who can he trust and who will survive?
This is a historical novel with teeth and will make you feel as if you can see the events of the story playing out before your eyes instead of just on the page. I have not read the first in the saga but I plan to go back and do so now. That said, this final installment can stand on its own and does not leave you clutching for information. It is clear that author Prue Batten has done her research and put it firmly into the story. The book itself has a natural flow that keeps you wanting and reading more. I could not imagine being in the situation that Gisborne was forced into, but times were different back then; this was not an unusual thing at all. Any lover of the historical fiction genre is going to enjoy this book depicting a time that is not written about nearly as much as it should be. I would recommend this one as a fantastic summer (or any time) read to the history lover.
