Maggie loves dogs! However, she can't have one because her twin brother, Finn, is allergic to the canines. Maggie and her twin live with their parents in Brooklyn in a brownstone ( I assume it's like a town house). The owner, Isabel, is a wealthy, middle-aged socialite who loves, and I do mean, loves to talk! Especially about her past life and her past loves. She talks a lot about her ex-husbands and her Broadway career. Isabel loses many things and Maggie finds them in the most unlikely places.

Isabel hurts her knee while doing the salsa dance. Now she can't walk her dog, Preston. Maggie's parents offer to let Maggie walk Preston for Isabel. Since Maggie loves dogs and is so good at dog walking her praises get around the neighborhood and soon Maggie is in a secret business. She doesn't let her parents know how many dogs she is walking for fear that they will make her quit.

As is the life of a junior higher, Maggie's best friend, Ivy, doesn't want to be Maggie's friend anymore and makes two new friends who begin to make fun of Maggie. Maggie deals with it well and goes off to make better friends. Ah! Now Maggie has a crush on Milo, the new kid on the block.

As luck would have it the first time Maggie tries to strike up a conversation with Milo but ends up embarrassing herself with too much talking and her "ex" friend sees it all!

Maggie feels like the lowest of the low but then Ivy's dog, Kermit, is dognapped and she seeks Maggie for help. However, Kermit isn't the only dog to disappear from this Brooklyn neighborhood.

Maggie has a long list of suspects and one of them is an I.just.can't.believe.it's.that.person!

This is a cute new series with a sharp preteen detective. A 4 star read for preteens who love a mystery and dogs.
