Ghost Boy is a children's paranormal mystery novella by Jan Burns. While digging for arrowheads at his grandparents' quarry along with his friends, siblings Addy and David Robertson, young Tyler Scott stumbles upon a human skull, which appears to be that of a young boy. After Tyler's father and Dancing Creek Sheriff Scott and Deputy Jack Ford delve into the case, Tyler and his friends set off to do their own investigating. Soon, Tyler comes across the ghost of the young boy, Ben, who asks Tyler to find his father. Tyler's investigation reveals a 30-year-old case of a missing father and son duo involving a silver mine and missing antiques. Meanwhile, someone is following Tyler's every move. Will Tyler and his friends be able to find the truth and bring closure to Ben's spirit?
A tantalizing sleuth mystery tale with a sprinkling of the supernatural, Ghost Boy is an enthralling read for preteens and young adults alike. From the very first page, readers are going to be hooked into a captivating story full of mystery and intrigue, making you wonder what's coming next, chapter after chapter. Jan Burns keeps a brisk pace throughout the book, placing some surprising twists and turns along the way to keep readers engaged and entertained through the pages. The story is short yet thoroughly absorbing, devoid of any dull moments or sequences. I really enjoyed the friendship between Tyler and Addy and David's mischievous antics, which always get him in trouble. There were moments when it felt as if the danger was too much to handle, but the kids always came through. All in all, this is a brilliant sleuth mystery for young readers.
