Desperate to save her family’s farm, Rosalie trusts the wrong person and ends up being sold as a slave to Lord Demious, the infamous city magistrate of Farrow’s Gate. Rosalie’s arrival at the magnificent estate leads to a shock because Lord Demious intends for her to compete against ten other beautiful and magically gifted humans so that he may choose a bride from among them. Rosalie would rather work her debt off as a servant, but she has no choice in the matter. Baine, the dark elf who serves as the head of Lord Demious’s guards might prove to be more than just a gorgeous distraction, maybe even more than a useful tool for Rosalie to seduce. As the competition progresses, it becomes harder for Baine and Rosalie to hide their feelings for each other, and with evidence of a dangerous dark thing lurking around, the situation might reach breaking point before the pair can escape.
The second novella in Belinda Jane’s A Dark Elf Romance series, Garden of Twilight delivers steamy sexual tension and an entertaining plot. Rosalie is clever, determined, and willing to use everything at her disposal, including her beauty, to escape from the marriage competition. Baine is the perfect Alpha male: possessive, a touch broody, and strong. But what makes this dark elf stand apart from the cliché is his respect for Rosalie and appreciation for her strengths. Although each novella in the series is a standalone, there is always a sense of the larger world of Saol and the war being fought at the Borderlands to contain the dark things that enter Saol through a magical rift. These hints at a bigger picture add a layer of intrigue and danger to the romance in Garden of Twilight as Rosalie faces a choice between saving herself or saving all the women at the estate.
