Alice Elizabeth Lye Broaddus was born in Canada September 4, 1904. She dedicated her life to serving the Lord. As a missionary she ministered to people in South China, Hong Kong, California and Mexico. This is her story as told by her daughter A. Ruth Chastain.
Alice was encouraged to write a book concerning her fascinating life. Her plan was to write the book when she was no longer able to “get around.” She went home to Jesus when she was 97. Her daughter Ruth used notes, taped interviews, a diary and memories to immortalize this fascinating woman.
Her life as a missionary is fascinating. She was in Manila during WWII. After much bombing, the Japanese took the city. She and her children were eventually sent to an Internment Camp. Her husband had stayed in Hong Kong where he died. Through all the hardships God sustained them. Their needs were met.
Frontier Girl is not a large book but it is remarkable. I was fascinated by Alice’s life and her faith. There are photographs included that compliment the text. The photographs make Alice come alive to readers. Ruth writes in a conversational manner. The story flows smoothly. It is easy to recommend Frontier Girl to readers
