Each chapter contains quotes, a brief narrative, and then ends with how to take that story and apply it to your own life by experiencing Jesus in a new way. Fuller leads you down five pathways that pave the way to encountering Jesus: The Word, serving, trials, mountaintop experiences, and through quiet times with God. Encountering Jesus, experiencing His presence changes our essence. If we fix our eyes on Jesus, gaze into His eyes of love, we cannot help but be changed. Truly encountering Jesus is life altering; face-to-face experiences with Christ change the way we live, our behavior, our relationships and even our life goals. Fresh Encounters with Jesus is not a self help book full of facts about God; it is a book that aids you in seeking the face of God.
Cheri Fuller states that Fresh Encounters with Jesus is about seeing Him more clearly and letting that vision transform your life. Fuller’s writing style is sincere, warm and inviting. Fresh Encounters with Jesus is well-written, proving her love of literature and the Word of God. She uses Biblical and contemporary stories to lay a foundation for her topic, and by including her own stories she makes it genuine. Furthermore, the inclusion of quotes from poets and theologians and various translations of scripture solidify her words.
Although any reader would be blessed by the narrative, Fuller’s insights are directed mainly to the female audience. She stays true to her theme from beginning to end; every chapter invites you to draw near to Christ and to be made new in His presence. There is an abundance of one-liners that resonate in your soul. One of my favorites is “God is always doing great things whether or not we take time to notice them.” If you are hurried, frazzled, and weighed down by life, Fresh Encounters with Jesus is a prescription for your mind, body and spirit.
