Fracture: The Flicker Effect Book 2 by Melanie Hooyenga, continues the story of Biz Clement, a teenager who has the ability to jump back in time 24 hours when the light strobes just right. This ability has allowed her to cheat on tests, relive moments with her boyfriend Cam, and save her boyfriend’s little sister Katie, who was kidnapped years earlier. Katie is not adjusting to life away from her kidnapper, or the media attention her rescue has focused on her. And Cam is slowly slipping away, as he spends most of his time with Sarah, the sister of another rescued girl. If that weren’t enough, Biz is coping with the knowledge that her father has the same ability, and it’s killing him.
Fracture: The Flicker Effect Book 2 by Melanie Hooyenga is loaded with drama, spice, and action. Biz receives notoriety as her pictures get national attention, but she shows maturity as she decides not to cheat to be in the right place for them. Some of the antics pulled by her while dealing with bullies at school are hilarious, but they also demonstrate forethought and wisdom. Biz is growing up, and it shows. As her secret comes out to those closest to her, she discovers that changing the past often makes the future worse. This second installment in The Flicker Effect is brilliant, even better than the first book. I looked forward to reading this, and I wasn’t disappointed. Character development, an engaging plot, gripping drama, and high stakes: it’s all here, the whole package. Melanie Hooyenga delivers a well-written sequel that is worth the time to read.
