Four of Spades by CJ Vermote is about a woman named Sara who has a special ability to see visions of the future through her dreams and spirits speaking to her through visions. Her gift had saved her life once when she anticipated her ex-husband would try to kill her. Her visions later in life helped them save Liz, her daughter, after her ex-husband's mother kidnapped Liz. Although her husband, Brandon, didn't take these visions seriously when Sara first informed him about them, he started taking them seriously after Liz's kidnapping. He even helped her document her dreams by jotting them down for her. Now with her husband and friends on board, believing that the spirit world communicates with Sara, she uncovers the identity of a serial killer, helping the police find him and getting justice for the victims and their families.
Four of Spades by CJ Vermote is a thrilling depiction of the life of Sara as she starts to embrace her gift to communicate with the spirit world. I did not expect the surprise twist at the end, making this book an exciting read. The ending was gripping, and I couldn't wait to see how it unfolded. I enjoyed watching Sara's character develop as she accepts her gift and uses it to help others. The serial killer is a complex character. His bizarre relationship with his mother leaves you spellbound and intrigued as you try to unravel what motivates this serial killer to commit these heinous crimes.
