Folder is a young adult sci-fi novel written by Raymond Bolton. Recently graduated from high school, Eric Folder joins the Portland State University, taking physics as a major. As his family members acclimatize themselves to their new home in Portland, Eric ventures out to explore the city. However, an encounter with some thugs in an alley leaves Eric with a head injury that grants him the ability to change reality and possess the consciousness of another Eric from an alternate reality. Initially circumspect of his abilities, Eric soon starts switching realities to find the perfect one, only to find himself in a pre-industrial America. Eric's only hope now is to find people with similar abilities and get his life back on track. Can he get back to where he started?
Folder is a fast-paced sci-fi adventure novel that gives you a lot to ponder. With a unique premise, author Raymond Bolton explores the consequences of one's choices and actions on their surroundings and their impact on their reality. Eric is a compelling protagonist, and his changing relationship dynamics with his friends and family in alternate realities felt captivating. I particularly enjoyed his relationship with Erin throughout the parallel worlds. The plot moves at a fast pace, taking twists and turns that you never see coming. The climax ties together the plot threads in a satisfying manner. Overall, I enjoyed Folder. I will recommend it to readers who enjoy young adult sci-fi adventure books with a uniquely original premise.
