Piper Holland wasn’t looking for romance when she went to pick up her dry cleaning one evening after work. She just wanted her silk blouse. But when a handsome Air Force pilot walks in behind her, Piper’s well-organized life is thrown into emotional chaos. Gabriel Orsini is everything she’s ever wanted in a man: funny, smart, kind, heroic, and religious. He’s also the perfect subject for the idea Piper is about to pitch for the fall edition of Finding Phoenix, the magazine Piper works for. She wants to feature hometown heroes who will share their favorite Phoenix places and activities. Gabriel agrees to be featured, and he and Piper begin spending much more time together. Their relationship flourishes, but when Gabriel is sent overseas on a temporary assignment, things get complicated. He’s sure they can make it work, but Piper, afraid of loss and change, pulls away. She loves Gabriel, but if she can’t overcome her own trust issues, their relationship may be doomed.
