Flight: Notes on the Out-of-Body Experience by Nancy Stephan is a metaphysical memoir detailing the author's multiple conscious and unconscious OBEs. The book begins with Stephan describing her earlier life and the Christian cornerstone that has shaped her. Her first OBE is a turning point and when she shares it with her pastor, she is told that it is best to keep it to herself, which she does. As the experiences happen more frequently she starts to compartmentalize two different types: unconscious, where the OBE is induced while sleeping and she deems to be a Godly experience, and conscious, that happens while she is awake and is feared to be the work of the devil. Over decades the profound nature of the OBEs take on a new shape, new meaning, and new points of view on what they actually are, and the author now shares them openly, freely, and in clear detail.

Flight is the first book I have read on out-of-body experiences that are removed from the more commonly recognized near-death experiences. Nancy Stephan digs deeper and not only shows us what it feels like to have soul and body disconnect, but how it is not usually just her looking down at her physical form in the way most people have heard. Stephan is frequently able to move, leave the environment her body is in, and embark on travel and experiences that transcend time, space and dimension. She is able to move undetected, for the most part, among those in their bodies but with a heightened awareness of their own energy. I was intrigued by a visit Stephan makes in the encounter titled Trapped Woman. She is in the dishevelled home of a hoarder with a woman sitting in the center of filth, and the home surrounded by a moat of spikes. The energy is so heavy and oppressive that Stephan must leave the woman to be helped by an “other” with the frequency to do so. There are so many experiences that Stephan describes and it is really incredible to be taken along for the ride. Flight is a well-written book that I believe readers who are open to it will find fascinating.

Flight: Notes on the Out-of-Body Experience is a work of non-fiction in the spiritual and memoir subgenres. It is suitable for the general reading audience and was penned by author Nancy Stephan. The book is a record of the author's 30 years of out-of-body experiences. Whilst the experiences were originally a significant burden on the author's life, over the years she slowly turned that burden into a gift that allowed her greater wisdom and insight into the world around her. The book chronicles her journeys around the world as she grows both in her gift and in herself, and uses her gift to fight the good fight.

The spiritual world is an endlessly fascinating one, and out-of-body experiences are an often discussed aspect of it that tends to be romanticized. Fortunately, author Nancy Stephan has brought her first-hand experiences to that discussion and grounded us in the reality of the out-of-body experience; that whilst there are spiritually uplifting experiences to be had from them there is also a psychological and emotional toll taken if you don’t understand or feel in control of the process. Overall, Flight explores the process of turning the initial fear and confusion into a powerful tool for self-improvement and even advocacy in a way that treats the subject with respect and careful consideration. The resulting work is a fascinating memoir of the author's life as she grows not just in her gift but within herself. Whilst not every reader will get to participate in an out-of-body experience, the idea that pushing through the things that scare us in order to discover strength is a universal theme and one that this book uses well.

Flight reveals Nancy Stephan's various out-of-body experiences for over 30 years. Though Nancy first feared these out-of-body experiences were from the devil, she came to accept them as a gift from God and got to experience decades of interactions with other people and visitations to other places in uncharted realms. In one experience, we see Nancy watch a combination of celestial objects that begin to align as she senses some significance in the process and the importance of remembering it. Another out-of-body experience depicts a ride in an elevator that goes into another dimension and takes Nancy on a mission to help a lonely man who doesn't know he lives underground. Travel with Nancy as she explores different compelling and mind-blowing realities in Flight.

Nancy Stephan's book is a novelty in the realm of books that take you out of your reality into other ones. I felt my mind lighten and float into the worlds described in the book. In fact, it seemed like I had been to different places even though I never left my seat the whole time I was reading the book. The book's stories about different out-of-body experiences are likely to lift readers and transport them to situations and realities they've never thought about or imagined before—more so because of its vivid descriptions. Readers who are tired of life's draining routines would find a gateway into new experiences in Flight. The book is a reminder to all that there's more to life than meets the eye, and the different realities in Flight reveal that life doesn't have to be limited to what we are used to.
