Flavours by Susan Mehra is lighthearted romantic comedy set in London. Steve and Rebecca work at the same coffee shop. They are both single and they develop an attraction to each other. In spite of their growing fondness for each other, both of them join an online dating agency to find partners. Amid the aroma and flavours of coffee, latte, wraps, and muffins, we see the romance developing subtly between two normal people who are looking for companions in their lives. The story ties together the delicious aroma of coffee and the taste of romance beautifully to come out with an engaging story that will keep readers glued to the book till the end.
The story is breezy and very enjoyable. The characters are genuine and readers can relate easily to them. Their lives and their behavior in the midst of work and life make them likable. There are a few distractions in the middle of the story which shift the focus from lighthearted comedy to a different emotion. It lends a twist to the theme of romance. But, like the lattes in the coffee shop, the author has flavoured it well and blended it into the main theme with expertise.
I enjoyed the author's style of writing. It is evocative, humorous, neat and elegant; at the same time descriptive without being boring. It is a fast paced novel that is engaging and entertaining.
