First Love, Last Love is an enthralling play in 3 acts with 8 characters, written by Edward Eaton. A bunch of toys feel restless at their captivity in a basement. After quite a quarrelsome session, the toys plan to seek out their owner living above the stairs. George, the monkey, and Count, the vampire, want vengeance while the senior dolls, Joe and Babs, seek peace. But they find their owner, Danny, at the end of his days, feeling shocked at his transformation from a loving child to a helpless old man. As Danny starts regaling them with stories of heroic adventures, the friends realize the fleeting nature of a person's life. They learn the art of letting go and say their goodbyes to Danny. Meanwhile, Danny's oldest friend, the Bear, gives him company during his last moments.
Edward Eaton's verse drama enthralls you with its three acts, filled with humor, conflict, and tragedy. First Love, Last Love is an encapsulation of how one's needs and wants change throughout life, teaching a valuable lesson in the art of letting go. With colorful characters that pop out of the page, Edward Eaton showcases the impact of the passage of time on a man. Every character has a distinct voice and personality that makes for a compelling drama. I especially enjoyed the characters of Rector, George, and Count. There are some beautifully written poems for poetry lovers to enjoy. I had a wonderful time reading First Love, Last Love. Readers who enjoy the theater or reading plays will find this book thoroughly entertaining.
