Narrator Nancy tells of her pretty Southern mother's life and loves. Mother Elise receives a telephone call each year on her birthday from her first love, Peter, and her husband, Rich, just smiles and doesn't disapprove. Elise's mother, Nancy's Nana, totally disapproved of Elise's love for Peter, and as a result, Elise married Rich, an enlisted World War II sailor and a Yankee. Elise and Rich settled on an Ohio farm that Rich inherited from an uncle, and there they raised their children, Nancy, Richie and Lily. First Love, Last Dance is filled with stories of family life, of Rich and Richie building a soap box derby car, of the family traveling to Atlanta to visit their mother's relatives and of Rich writing poetry to Elise on her birthday. The story is filled with life's ups and downs; how Rich dies and Elise marries a friend, Harlan. But after the years pass, will Elise finally be reunited with Peter, her first love?

First Love, Last Dance is a charming and highly readable story of a daughter's memories of her mother's life. A table of contents would help the reader relocate areas of interest. Some grammar corrections and attention to punctuation errors is needed, but these small needs do not take away in the least from this delightful biography that many people from all walks of life will truly enjoy reading. Kindle and Nook fans will especially enjoy downloading this book and reading it at their leisure.
