In Finding the Way: From Prussia to a Prairie Homestead by author Alfred Wellnitz, readers are taken on a journey into the past. Much like life, the story is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes heartwarming, but certainly worth the ride. Follow the story of Karl Mueller, a Prussian veteran of the Franco-Prussian War, as he pursues his dream of becoming a homesteader in America. Through hardship, hard work, and a little bit of love, Karl has the opportunity to find out who he really is and what he really wants in his life. In a journey that spans half the globe, one man finds what is truly meaningful.
I so enjoyed Finding the Way: From Prussia to a Prairie Homestead. Author Alfred Wellnitz has done a great job in creating a story and characters that his readers will truly care about, and will think about long after the book is done. If that isn't a hallmark of a wonderful writer, I'm not sure what is. The scenes are set perfectly in the historical time period, and are so well described that his readers will feel almost as if they can slip into the scenes right next to Karl and experience the same. Any reader who loves historical fiction, stories about early American settlement or simply a great read of fiction would love Finding the Way: From Prussia to a Prairie Homestead, and I highly recommend this book. I will also certainly be keeping my eye out for the next book offered by author Alfred Wellnitz. If it's anything like Finding the Way, it will absolutely be worth the read!
