Fight Like a Man by Dominique Wilkins speaks about relationships between parents and children and how they can influence your thinking and life. Amy abused her boyfriend Jack physically, mentally, and emotionally whenever her needs were not met. Her kids, Andrea and Danny, are regular witnesses of these incidents happening in the house. Amy gets into many relationships one after the other just to fulfill her requirements. This poisons the lives of both her kids. The author has exposed the negative aspects of living in an unhealthy environment and in unhealthy relationships. The story also shows how Amy's abusive behavior indirectly instills a fear in the minds of her children in forming balanced relationships.
The theme of the book is the relevant topic of domestic abuse which causes much upheaval in the lives of the children living in those dysfunctional families. The author has incorporated Biblical verses in between to remind readers about what the scriptures say about men, women, and relationships. In this story, it is disheartening to see the effects of Amy's behavior on her children's relationships with others.
The book speaks about the need for providing a healthy environment for kids to grow up in to make them balanced individuals, both in body and mind. I like the idea of peppering the story with thoughts from the scriptures because they make the story uplifting and give proper guidance to readers. The ending is unexpected and the language is a bit harsh in places.
