Fierce Winds Rising by Richard Dinoso is the story of a young princess's destiny that is being decided for her. Two kingdoms must join forces to protect themselves from an impending war. Unfortunately, this means that there must be a royal wedding to join the two kingdoms. The princess must do her duty to protect her people, but marriage is not something to be taken lightly. Will she do her duty and put her people first, or will she step down and live her life the way she wants to?
I know there must be reviews that talk about the characters and the pace of the story. But I want to talk about something else. Let's begin with the kingdoms. From the very beginning, Dinoso created an atmosphere that allowed the reader to immerse their senses in it. It felt like a Game of Thrones type novel from the very beginning. I loved the way everything was written. The chapters were descriptive, but they were not too long and not too short.
The imagery was so crisp. It was almost too real at times. I really enjoy novels that evoke my imagination and allow me to become one with the novel. This novel was exactly that. I could live, breathe and eat what these characters were doing. It was a perfect novel in every way. I could not find a single fault, plus the cover of the novel was great and perfectly in sync with the story. A great epic fantasy!
