Ferret by C.C. Wyatt is a mystery written in a realistic setting. Her laid-back style perfectly blends strange occurrences with a moderately normal life. Pia returns to Florida with her parents, returning to the beach house where four years prior she had disappeared. For sixteen hours, no one knew where Pia was. She was found wandering the beach with no memory of what had happened to her. The out-of-body visions and nightmares of an island that have haunted her since become worse upon her arrival at the beach house, but with a bigger mystery attached. She starts seeing a stranger named Cameron in her visions. Pia works to put the pieces of her visions together to prove to herself that she isn’t crazy or hallucinating. Pia has to take a leap of faith to trust herself and Cameron to discover if the island she keeps seeing is real.

C.C. Wyatt weaves the strange and horrifying visions masterfully into a normal moment of her protagonist’s life. The mystery kept me turning the pages to the very end. I had to know why Pia was having visions, where she went that night four years ago, and how it connects to the disappearance of Cameron’s parents. Pia is an easy character to relate to and I found myself rooting for her to solve the mystery. It’s intriguing, fast-paced, and mysterious. It’s a great first novel for a series! Wyatt gives just enough answers to feel satisfied about Pia’s sanity, but leaves other questions open. On the surface it’s a mystery blending the supernatural visions with a hint of fantasy, but at the heart it’s a story of belief. It begs the question of ‘which is stronger, the belief we have in ourselves, the belief others have in us, or the belief we have in them?’ I can’t wait for the next book!

Pia Wade wants to enjoy her parents’ trust, but she just has to get to the bottom of the mysterious visions, nightmares and experiences that threaten her sanity in Ferret by C.C. Wyatt. Anxious to be a ‘normal’ teen, Pia tries to hang out with her friend Stephanie during Spring Break, but now that she is back in Florida for the first time since her unexplained disappearance four years earlier, strange things begin to happen again. Cameron, a cute guy who Stephanie and some of the other kids think is strange, is attracted to Pia and Pia feels some type of connection to him as well. As the two get to know each other better, it is obvious that something unique ties them together. The mystery lies in the area known as the Bermuda Triangle, a spot where Cameron’s parents disappeared and where Pia is the only person able to see a beautiful island. Strange occurrences in Bermuda help to convince Pia that there is an explanation for her visions and with Cameron's help, they try to find some answers. Will they succeed or will the Triangle claim some new victims?

Ferret by C.C. Wyatt follows Pia’s quest for understanding that incorporates typical teenage issues along with the burden of her strange experiences. The writing is smooth with characters that are believable and a blend of realistic and fantastic action that keeps the story moving along, making you wonder what will happen next. I loved the story! The characters are well developed, the action flows well and the fantasy elements are intriguing – and the lead in to a next volume is perfect. This is a great story well worth reading, especially with the promise of more to come.

It kind of reminds you of the movie The Happening. Except with Ferret, you can expect the mystery solved in the upcoming book—which I can’t wait to get my hands on!

One of the best and unique writings I've read in a while.

"Ferret” by C.C. Wyatt was an entertaining, emotional, almost surreal, fantasy/sci-fi novel that pushes the boundaries of typical YA literature. It probably took me until almost half way through to really get hooked, but once I was, I was all in and didn’t want to put it down until I was finished. I’ve read a lot of teen/young adult and it’s hard to surprise me, but this book did more than once. I am in awe of the author’s imagination and ability to weave together a story that is both fun, but also complex enough to keep us interested and has several good messages for younger readers to consider. It was actually quite profound at times, especially at the end. Well-written and unpredictable, even if it does contain some familiar tropes necessary for a YA paranormal/romance. C.C. Wyatt gives a unique spin on the magical-heroine-adventure motif, and I don’t feel like it’s just a clichéd re-telling. In fact, I’ve never read anything that felt like this before, and it was entirely unpredictable. Oh, loved that Oprah makes a cameo too, haha. This is the first book in a series so the story is only just beginning – can’t wait to see what happens next! Appropriate for most ages, teen on up. Recommend.

The blurb describes Ferret as having a literary feel that adapts to many genres and I couldn't have put it any better. This a wonderfully written and highly original YA Paranormal Fantasy that stands head and shoulders among its peers. Quite often I find too many cliched tropes in Paranormal Fantasy but they are refreshingly absent here whilst the lead character Pia Wade just brims with life. A really great start to a series and can only hope the next release is a s good as this one!
