Ross Harrison is the author of novels and short stories in the realms of science fiction – specifically space opera and science fantasy – thriller, noir, and post-apocalyptic steampunk. He has been writing since childhood, and occasionally likes to revisit those old stories for a good cringe and nervous laugh. He also writes about himself in the 3rd person because it seems more professional.
Ross lives on the UK/Eire border in Ireland, where he moved from England in 2001, hoping the rain will help his hair grow back.

Fear of the Dark by Ross Harrison sees Victoria Miller (Silver) crash her pod on the planet known as Vix. She struggles through a violent electrical storm and discovers a research facility. Dr. Arish informs her there was a containment breach and takes her underground. Victoria’s brother James and ex-boyfriend Travis Archer stage a rescue mission, believing they had retrieved Victoria and most of her crew. The ship’s robot, Arkuun-Marl, begins investigating Freeman’s murder. Then it apparently goes rogue and attacks Victoria. Archer pursues the robot while a medic performs an autopsy. A confusing amalgam of duplicate crew members is revealed. Could a shapeshifting alien or bioweapon be involved? The real Victoria is still imprisoned on Vix and being tested using mind games. What is the sinister significance of the phrase “long dark”?
Fear of the Dark by Ross Harrison is an action-packed science fiction thriller. The plot was cleverly constructed to keep the reader guessing and realistic enough to create a sense of empathy with the leading character’s confusion. At one stage in the narrative, I was pretty sure everyone was going to end up dead, so the ultimate resolution came as a pleasant surprise. I liked the unique twists applied to the killer robot trope. The unlikely romance between Archer and assassin Juni Lien added a frisson of sexual tension which was cleverly distributed throughout the tale. I can confidently recommend this book to fans of classic science fiction and space opera.
