Bill and his friends from the US Army are in town for Bill’s sister’s wedding, until an innocent stranger on the street is held at gunpoint. Soon the soldiers team up with local officers, and even agents from the FBI, to unveil a deep conspiracy lying just beneath the surface of the quiet little town they’re in.

Conspiracy abounds in this very exciting novel. Author TL Scott writes with great pacing, taking readers from one scene to the next without wasting time on extraneous details. Bill is a well characterized hero who has some heart, but is appropriately unemotional and sometimes closed off due to his position in the army. The plot of the soldiers uncovering the gang and the gang’s connection to unexpected people is a well-woven mystery that I found difficult to predict, leading to a highly satisfying overall conclusion. Some moments will be difficult for readers, especially in today’s frightening climate of terror and homegrown enemies, but that genuine fear only serves to ramp up the excitement and make you root for the boys as they get closer to catching the culprits. Overall, Fault Line will be a definite hit among both military and crime fans.

T.L. Scott writes with a purpose and that is to get a message across. Fault Line brings home the seriousness of human trafficking and the depths of wickedness some people have imposed on others, usually on the helpless and innocent. When Bill goes home to attend his little sister’s wedding, he realizes illegal business has moved into his small hometown in Texas. Life quickly becomes comparable to action in Afghanistan after he saves Isabella’s life. When an FBI sting operation becomes bigger than they can handle, they call on Bill and his team. Multiple factors come into play as information is being fed to the ringleader, Miguel. Bill and Mike are racing to set the traps before the hurricane arrives and hinders their mobility.

Action and adventure is what you will find when you read Fault Line. T.L. Scott discreetly writes about human trafficking without going into too much lurid detail. I felt he gives a sense of dignity to his characters, but he understands the scars that are imposed on these victims for years to come. The author not only researched this topic but also has supporting links at the end of the book so the reader can learn more about enslavement. This novel slowly unfolds, and the author throws in many well thought out scenarios. Fault Line gives a realistic impression with well-developed characters. The ending is open, so we could be seeing more of Bill, Isabella, and Miguel. I would recommend this novel for those interested in military themes, adventure and crime.

Fault Line by TL Scott is an action adventure novel that would appeal most to a mixed audience of young adults and adults who enjoy stories featuring soldiers, police officers, and FBI agents. Bill and a few of his army friends arrived in Bill’s hometown to enjoy some peace and quiet while also attending Bill’s sister’s wedding. Yet, those peaceful plans were quickly interrupted by an AK 47 being pointed directly at a woman’s head with the man holding the gun clearly intent on pulling the trigger. Bill and his friends were in the right place at the right time in order to save that woman, but their decision to save her put them in the cross-hairs of an even bigger threat. Does Bill have what it takes to free his old hometown from the gang that has invaded it?

Fault Line by TL Scott is a well written book with a fast pace that started right in the beginning and carried me all the way to the conclusion of the story with startling speed. This book reminded me a bit of the 24 TV and book series with its fast-paced nature and action-filled atmosphere. However, I ended up enjoying this book more than the 24 books as this one had a small town feel to it that I really enjoyed. The author did an amazing job with building a feeling of suspense that began with an attempted murder right on the main street. I loved the way the author threw me straight into the action and did not waste time with unnecessary background or filler information; instead every word, sentence, and phrase was crafted towards building the plot, setting, and characters.
