Originally from the Washington, DC area, for the last 16 years, Kate McLaughlin and her husband have traveled the country as full-time RVers. Working as volunteers with the National Park Service and other service organizations provided them with the opportunity to discover the wonders of America while working with other seniors who lead active and exciting lives. Many folks suggested she share some of their experiences with the world. Consequently, Madge Franklin was "born" shortly after Kate turned 70. Madge, and her husband Paul, function as the vehicles for telling readers about the RVing life-style, the wonders of the United States and the joys and rewards of volunteering. Since publishing Fast Food Kills, Kate and her husband have purchased a home in Alamogordo, New Mexico where Kate is currently working on an new Madge Franklin adventure.

Fast Food Kills (A Madge Franklin Mystery) by Kate McLaughlin is a murder mystery novel inspired by the author, Kate McLaughlin, and her husband’s stories. Fast Food Kills follows retired couple Madge and Paul Franklin as they simply enjoy life. The couple lives in their RV which they use to travel all across the United States of America. For the last six years, the couple has enjoyed a leisurely time traveling as both simple tourists and as volunteers; this tranquillity ends when they are recruited by a government agency to track a mad scientist. This particular mad scientist is a suspected killer, believed to be using fast food restaurants as his weapon of choice. Fast Food Kills is a novel that will appeal to readers who enjoy murder mysteries.
Move over Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, and make room for retired travelers Madge and Paul Franklin as they show you how to solve a real murder while enjoying life. I found myself really enjoying the characters of Madge and Paul Franklin; they had an interesting relationship with each other both as husband and wife as well as partners in this clandestine operation. The decision to have a retired couple as the main characters is something unique in murder mystery novels, and I found the concept to be intriguing and entertaining. My favorite part of the book was the Death Valley National Park scene near the end of the novel. Just WOW - what an ending!
