Farm Day is a children’s book written by Tina Marie Kaht and illustrated by Hatice Bayramoglu. As two children who live on a farm begin their day, they watch as their farm cat chases a mouse before the farm dog chases the cat, a rabbit and squirrel. Ducklings follow their mama, as the lambs and baby chicks stay close to theirs. Goats, roosters, and snakes are all a part of daily living on a farm. A baby foal tries to stand as her mama watches carefully, a cow chews its cud, and a pig enjoys the mud when the farm children spray water into the trough. Butterflies and bees are working hard, as do the fish, frogs, birds, and dragonflies. At the end of the long day on the farm, surrounded by the beauty of nature, the children scrub up, eat dinner, and go to bed, resting for the next day.
Tina Marie Kaht’s delightful book is exactly what most parents look for when making a purchase. Not only does it provide the everyday happenings on a farm in full colour, but when the children have gone to bed at the end of the book, Farm Day's adventure continues, repeating the story's illustrations in black and white in the form of a colouring book, as well as activities for children, such as asking what is missing from particular pictures, or to draw what should be there. It also provides lessons on the unusual growth of a frog, drawing tutorials on how to draw animals, and explains how light and oxygen affect plants. I very much enjoyed Farm Day and highly recommend that it be stocked by school, home and kindergarten libraries, as it would most definitely provide many hours of educational fun for the young reader.
