Farewell to Murder by Kimberly Griggs is the second book in the Deadly Paradise Mystery series. Mallory Hemingway was once a reporter but after a close encounter with a murderer and the breaking of her engagement, she decided to accept a job as caretaker of the Hemingway house. Moving to Key West was her second chance at a new start in life. She even has a best friend that encourages her to learn how to scuba dive, which is how she meets a frustrating yet handsome instructor. Now, she has more time to write and is making the most of her new life until she receives threatening messages written in blood, which make it clear that someone doesn't want her here. It only gets weirder from there when someone sends cryptic messages that don't sit well with her, and she gets blamed for being irresponsible when she knows that's not true. So when she finds a body in the swimming pool and her job at the Hemingway house is threatened, she sets out to catch a killer even if it means uncovering secrets...
Kimberly Griggs delivers a fun mystery with a strong-willed personality in Mallory, a stunning setting, and a story that makes great use of Ernest Hemingway. Mallory's life spun once into chaos which is a theme that continues in Farewell to Murder. The mystery has an edge of a psychological approach through the cryptic messages, the gate to the yard being unlocked, messages from Pirate Pete, and the eventual murder that takes place in her backyard. Each of these creates a steady build-up to push Mallory to second guess herself and leads everyone to start spreading rumors of her irresponsibility. She takes up the investigation to prove that she's not being irresponsible and that someone is out to get her, even if that means defying the orders to stay out of it by the handsome detective. Her love life receives a little spice up with a frustrating instructor that she immediately connects with and the handsome detective. Everything about Farewell to Murder is charming, funny, and addictive involving a sleuth with attitude, a stunning Key West setting, and a Hemingway-themed mystery.
