Ever heard of a collage? No, not the place you earn a degree. A group of photos pasted together on a page or board … a glorified form of scrapbooking. Well, when you use all your own photos, things are easy. But there can be copyright issues when doing collages in a more professional realm with photos other than your own. Based on a friend’s and her own bad experiences with copyright issues for pictures in their collages, Denise Bossarte decided enough was enough. As a professional photographer, Denise decided to put together a collection of her pictures for others to use without the fear of copyright infringement. And so Fabulous Flora: Cactus #1: Copyright Free Images for Mixed Media and Collage Art was formed. The book contains 30 unique images of cacti on their own pages so you can cut one photo out without cutting one on the other side. There are two pages of big photos followed by a page with two smaller copies of those same photos, for a total of 30 large and 30 small photos ( two copies of each picture).
I love looking through photography books, so I grabbed Denise Bossarte’s book, Fabulous Flora, expecting a normal “art” book. When I realized her goal, providing artists with quality photographs to use without fear of reprisal, I was thrilled. Not only are the photographs of the cacti gorgeous on their own, but the format makes it easy to cut out pages to use in projects. A splendid offer for the art community. The work of a generous and caring soul. Beautiful work, great mission.
