Exhort, Encourage, Edify: An Independent Baptist Devotional by E.M. Kennedy is a inspirational book composed of words of knowledge and poetry created from a Christian perspective. This is rather a different inspirational book. I enjoyed how the author incorporated poetry into this wonderful Bible study. It gives the best of both worlds. Whenever someone writes poetry, not everyone may understand it. If that's the case, the expressions will not touch the reader, and will more likely confuse them. This book is far different. The poetry provided is captivating and appealing.
"If you have then you know a little bit
Of what Christ felt that day
As He hung on the cross, despised and rejected
Dying to take our sins away..."
This section paints a scene of grief and abandonment. It made me think and reflect on the path Jesus took for humanity. The author's poetic style is rhythmic and subtle. He allows you to not only read but to enter a place where you feel the expressions. Throughout the book are many inspirational writings that will educate and ignite your spirit to such a degree that you still hear the teachings and poems after the last page is turned. The world needs more authors like this. This group of people is blessed with compassion to help others through their various gifts. The writings in this book will never become obsolete, as it is from God's word. I recommend this book to Bible students and lovers of inspirational poetry, written from the foundation of faith. This book will not disappoint you.
