Evolve: The Path to Trauma-Informed Leadership by Carolyn Swora is essential to help leaders gain a fresh perspective on trauma and the human experience. If you catch today's headlines or engage in social media, it doesn't take long to realize that leadership is struggling and a shared trauma needs to be addressed. Swora shows how recent events, such as COVID-19, environmental and economic instability, social movements, and polarization, have impacted our lives and how we relate. These changes have affected what happens in the home and the workplace and demand a new perspective and approach to leadership. This leadership should focus on the human aspect of life, recognizing that we all go through traumatizing experiences that can affect us daily.

This accomplished author writes from experience. She faced a chaotic childhood, then became a young wife and mother who helped her husband as they grappled with his terminal cancer. She uses research and self-exploration so readers can look inside themselves and their leadership styles to help bring evolution, if not a revolution, to the workplace. The book stresses that you don't have to become a trauma expert to be a trauma-aware leader. I like her ideas on bringing positive ideas, solutions, and leadership to the workforce, beginning with a trauma-focused foundation. The book shows that this information can benefit leaders regardless of level, style, and experience.

If your organization, company, or business could benefit from more supportive, insightful leadership, Swora shows you how this can be done. But this approach doesn't have to be limited to the workplace. It begins with individual leaders who can positively affect wherever they go and whoever they meet. Left unaddressed, trauma can result in illness, anxiety, depression, frustration, burnout, and high turnover so this book can be viewed as an intervention or prevention strategy. Every leader, future leader, and HR office needs this guide. It's easy to read, and you'll like the casual style. If you're looking for that perfect Head-Heart-Body book to motivate and change others, maybe even yourself, look no further than Evolve by Carolyn Swora.
