Everything's Not Bigger is a contemporary fiction novel written by Britt Skrabanek. Jaye Davis had what seemed to be a dream existence. She worked for Lyman’s, an elite Dallas department store, where the ultra-wealthy went to be pampered and tempted by the latest styles and fashions. Jaye and her fellow sales professionals teetered around on their stilettos, every hair in place, and mentally calculated the commissions they’d make on each of their clients’ extravagant purchases. Her home was a luxury condo complete with a rooftop swimming pool that was perfect for the impromptu parties she and her best friend and neighbor loved to host. Her other nights were filled with endless parties and clubbing with Clint and Cassidy, the golden couple who seemed the Texas version of Barbie and Ken in their tanned perfection. But something was missing in Jaye’s life. The job, the parties, the inevitable hangovers and sore feet seemed pointless, and she was all too aware that everything about her life was a lie.
Britt Skrabanek’s contemporary coming of age novel, Everything's Not Bigger, is an enthralling and well-written story about a young woman whose life is disastrously turned awry by her relationship with a meth addict. Skrabanek deftly weaves a spell over the reader as they follow Jaye’s seemingly super-star existence and begin to understand that something is indeed wrong; something that only Jaye can fix. Skrabanek's characters are complex and nuanced -- I loved experiencing life through Jaye’s eyes. Her coming of age is not the stereotypical one so often portrayed; it’s quite another thing entirely and it’s absolutely marvelous. The author's writing is a joy to read, and her plot kept me engaged and interested throughout my reading experience. Everything's Not Bigger is hard indeed to put down until you've finished the last page. I’m quite pleased to see Skrabanek has at least one other book for me to get lost in and I intend on doing just that. Everything's Not Bigger is most highly recommended.
