Epiphany Man by D.B. Patterson is a unique story set against the backdrop of Tarpon Springs and Greece. Readers get to see the protagonist, Jonathan Nikolas Christakos, taking a personal journey and living out his tragic life where he loses his parents at a young age and also his uncle and aunt who brought him up. The story sees Jon, who is always helping the needy and being a ladies' man, finding out that he has only six months to live after being diagnosed with brain cancer. The chances of his survival are slim and how is he going to live those six months knowing his days are coming to a close?
The character of Jon is heartwarming, his background and life are palpable, and readers will feel for him. The rest of the characters in the book are also well portrayed, just like Jon, and they complement Jon very well. The story line is powerful and will pull readers into the book right from the start. The language is exquisite and the seasons and places come alive under the beautiful narration of the author. The scenes set in Tarpon Springs and the Greek villages bring out the colors of those areas, and the twists and the turns in the plot, and the protagonist's past and his present make the book a challenging read. The blending of reality and fantasy as far as the heart and soul moments are concerned is done seamlessly without sounding forced, which gives the story its originality and uniqueness.
