Empowered Women Empowering the World: Inspirational stories from women who are creating change within their community and beyond is a collaboration of motivational snapshots within the lives of several women, assembled by author Tammie Pike with contributions from the women represented within the book. It is their own voices that share what has made them the positive forces they have become, told in the first-person, accompanied by a quote and a brief profile by Pike. The stories of fifteen women are as diverse and fascinating as one would hope for in a book such as this. Each woman offers advice and details her background, upbringing, trials and tribulations, and their “ah-ha” moment, before going into the impactful personal changes they made to share and inspire others to do the same.
There were two standouts for me in Tammie Pike's Empowered Women Empowering the World. The first is childhood trauma survivor Caroline Bellenger, who shares a heart-breaking story of sexual abuse and the derailing of dreams that culminate in broken relationships, two decades of addiction, and more misfortune than any woman should ever have to contend with. She did a complete 180, took control, and is now a life coach and celebrated adventuress. The second is Kylie Allen, who had a very different and quite comfortable upbringing compared to that of Bellenger, but instead of settling for more of the same comfort, she decided she was going to step off the safer, well-traveled path and forge one of her own. No two women within the book can be compared with another except in the context of their ultimate success. The variety of inspiring stories allows for so many to identify and be touched, making Pike's extraordinary anthology a book that belongs in the hands of our children. Very highly recommended.
