The first book in MaryLu Tyndale’s series, Forsaken Dreams takes us on a journey with a group of southerners as they sail across the ocean to Brazil to start over, after their losses caused by the Civil War. In Elusive Hope, the story continues with the group struggling as the people of New Hope colony tries to start their new lives. The spoiled rich girl, Magnolia, has found herself in several questionable circumstances, and decides to escape the camp and the watchful eye of her wealthy parents. And when she found out Hayden is leaving, she decides to follow him, unbeknownst to him. When he finds out she is following, they make a deal, and her hope of finding a ship back home may finally come true. Or so she thinks. The deception that follows changes both their plans.
The New Hope colony is made up of so many different people, from all varying walks of life. I really don’t know what they were thinking in their plans to start a colony. They were soon to find out they couldn’t trust each other, that some would work while others didn’t think they had too. This was really one dysfunctional group of people. But the beauty of it all is that MaryLu Tyndale creates all of these characters, places them in the hot and humid land of Brazil, weaving together the struggles and dysfunctions, the strengths and encouragements of each character, and writes a story that her readers everywhere will love and enjoy! And the details are so realistic, inspirational, and full of expression, I felt like I was on a trip to Brazil as I was reading Elusive Hope. If you love fiction, you will love this book. MaryLu Tyndale is a fantastic, skillful, and professional storyteller, and her books are number one for me. Elusive Hope is at the top of that list!
