Eli's 1st Winter Carnival by Lisa Bowen is a delightful tale of Elijah, whose friends and family call him Eli. He goes to his very first carnival with his parents and his brother, Isaiah, who had attended once before. Eli loves winter; it is his favorite time of the year and he looks forward to the carnival with great excitement. As it is "as cold as ice-cream," according to his mom, Eli and his brother put their warmest coats on and go out with their parents. Adventure is had with snowball fights with the friends they meet along the way to the carnival. At the carnival, Eli wants to make snow angels with his friend, Ben, and has lots of fun. The boys play hockey with Malakai. Isaiah ski jumps high in the air! They build snowmen in the snowmen building contest, using carrots for the nose and buttons for the eyes. They make a wacky snowman who is upside down. And it wins the competition. By the time they are walking home, snow is falling and gets very deep indeed. Isaiah and Eli have pancakes made by their mom with delicious maple syrup. A fun day indeed.

Eli's 1st Winter Carnival by Lisa Bowen is a very brightly illustrated short story of Eli attending his first carnival. It was lovely to see such bright pictures depicting the boys playing board games and playing outside. In first person narrative, Lisa Bowen tells a simple story of Eli's fun in the snow on the way to a carnival with his family. Family stories are important, and stories like this which depict happy family life with games, love and outdoor activities are an important part of our children's reading library. Even though it shows two brothers in the story, a girl reading this would still enjoy the bright colors, and easy to read words help this story along perfectly. A warm and fuzzy family story.

Great story my two boys really liked it.

Scott

Amazing book, my twin girls and my son loved this book.

Great story. My grandson particularly likes pointing out the picture of Eli with his tongue to the side that resembles the snowman who won the contest and is standing on his head on the cover. My grandson enjoys reading about fun in the snow even on a hot sunny day in Maryland. The vibrant pictures keep his attention even though he is only two-years old. I like that the story encourages family.
