"Eliot Ness and The Untouchables", Second Edition by Kenneth Tucker, is a story depicting not only the life of Elliot Ness but that of AL Capone as well as Frank Nitti. The first half of the book deals with Elliot’s life from his young age up to his becoming a lawman and to his retirement. When one hears of Elliot Ness one may think of the Chicago mobs, bootleg whiskey and gangland killings. Many of the mobsters of that day were out to try and kill Elliot Ness and eventually change his name to Eliot. The last part of the book deals with the movie the 'Untouchables' and then delves into the Television Series starring Robert Stack. Most of the shows on television were written off of old case files so that one finds truth with an amount of fiction combined. Really very little is known about the Untouchables, the men who worked with Elliot Ness back in the Prohibition-era Chicago, but they help solved many crimes with Elliot.
'The Untouchables' was one of my favorite TV shows and as I read about them in this book it brought back memories of the many nights I sat and watched it on television. Many of the younger generation today have probably never seen the series unless it is out in syndication at some stations, but I imagine they have heard about the St. Valentine’s Day massacre. This in itself would help them to know a little about the book. The book has several pictures throughout which makes the book quite interesting and instructive to go along with the story of his life’s endeavors, his troubles and his family life. I feel that anyone who likes to read up on that time of history and the gangland wars will enjoy reading this updated book on Eliot Ness and his team of the Untouchables.
