Tom changed after his tragic loss. He’s angry, depressed, avoids people and has turned to a life of crime. His plan was to break in and rob Cashions a retail store. A few minutes and a hacksaw allowed him to enter the backdoor. Just as he thought “this is too easy,” he sees the flashlight beam and hears the voice of the night watchman, Elijah King.
Elijah gave Tom options. He could learn the lesson of life or go to jail. Of course Tom chose the lesson. Elijah had mentored three other men, now he would mentor Tom. The first lesson was a good job and money is just a byproduct of doing the right thing. The second lesson was, “It is not about you,…it is about what you create.” Believe was the third lesson. Elijah gave Tom a coin, when Tom discovered the meaning of the coin he would know the final lesson. The next night Elijah wasn’t there. Tom was frantic to find him. He began by turning to the men Elijah had mentored.
Elijah’s Coin is an easy to read, entertaining and though provoking book. The plot is well done, flows smoothly and keep me turning pages. The characters are enticing. I was quickly drawn in because I wanted to know them better. This is a lesson we all need to learn.
