Echoes of Fate is the third book in the Echoes Trilogy by Cheryl Campbell. Finally home after being in jail, Dani was looking forward to helping the Commonwealth forces win the war and stay far away from Colonel Houston. However, that wish came to an end when Houston sent 16-year-old Oliver to train to become a soldier for the Commonwealth. She wanted him back and got General Ramos to help her out. However, when Ramos went missing, Dani knew she would have to get into the Warden territory to get Ramos back. Nothing could have prepared Dani to come face to face with Rowan, but she did anyway. Rowan was manically looking for any opportunity to win the war against the Commonwealth and destroy all humanity. Even if he has to take Dani’s life, he would do it in a heartbeat. Can Dani get Ramos back and defeat Rowan at the same time? What would happen to Oliver if Dani and Ramos failed to get him back to Maine?
What a fantastic finale! Dani was the life of the story. Her character arc was vital for the story’s progress and development. Dani was a complex character who felt a lot, did a lot, and thought a lot. She worked hard to reach her goals, even if the result was not in her favor. I wasn’t so sure if I liked Colonel Houston at first, but as the story moved forward, I realized that, no, I didn’t like Houston at all. The conflict revolving around young Oliver pushed Dani to work faster and that in turn increased the pace of the story. I got an adrenaline rush just reading some action scenes. Rowan was a worthy antagonist. A strong villain for a strong hero, Rowan and Dani were well matched in intelligence and courage. Would it be wrong of me to say I hated Colonel Houston more than Rowan? For me, at least, he had a purpose that he was dedicated to, and Houston was just fighting for her agenda. Reading this story was a pleasure for the senses! Powerful and entertaining.
