Drinking the Poison and Waiting on Your Neighbor to Die by Dominique Wilkins is about how attitudes can change lives. Savannah hates everything about Kaleena. She tries to make Kaleena's life miserable with her scheming ways and hatred. But Kaleena's attitude of not being bothered about the whole thing is what forms the important part of the story. Whatever Savannah tries to ruin, it has no effect due to Kaleena's nonchalant attitude.
The book has an underlying positive theme on how our attitudes can have a good effect on us. We need not give importance to the negative feelings harbored by another person. Sometimes, instead of trying to make them understand, the best thing is to ignore them and go on living. The characters of Savannah and Kaleena are like the people whom we meet in our daily lives. And the book tells you to ignore all the negative people, thus reducing their power to hurt you with their ill feelings.
Hatred and jealousy are very powerful negative emotions which can actually eat a person. Drinking the Poison and Waiting on Your Neighbor to Die portrays these emotions powerfully through the character of Savannah. And the beauty of the story is how Kaleena changes the whole thing in a very positive way with her good vibrations and behavior, instead of getting influenced and manipulated by it. Attitudes can make or break your life. Life is all about how you look at it and how you want it to be. And that power is in you.
